Why your website platform doesn’t matter

We all have preferences, favorites, and nuances. Coffee being a science and an art, most people have a favorite blend, coffee shop, or way to drink it.

A problem that I want to help us understand better, is that sometimes we create negative mindsets towards anything that is not our favorite. We do this very often in business and we tend to foster an unusual amount of disdain for things we don’t believe are “perfect.”

We frequently get asked:

  1. How do you build websites
  2. What is your favorite platform
  3. I read online about XYZ digital marketing platforms, is that true?

And there are reasons we at Pullman Marketing have our own favorites. However, because we have worked in the industry for more than 10 years, we have developed the experience and wisdom to select what will fit your business best.

The real core question you should be asking is: How do I turn my web presence into a revenue-generating asset. The platform should not be the focus because we might not have accurately described the real problem.

Whether it is Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, or Drupal: it doesn’t really matter.
(I’ve heard JAM-stacks are all the rage these days.)

Most websites, at their core level, are all the same. There is no difference between a Wix site and a custom HTML website. They both serve the same purpose, live on a server, and present digital information to a potential customer.

So often we can get into a debate or a nuance discussion related to how pixels are placed on a screen that we forget the business problem that we are trying to immediately solve.

The only thing that matters is if the platform accurately and profitably gets the job done. Ultimately, we want to ensure you are receiving a return on investment from something that should be considered an asset on your accounting books and not a liability.

So here are three things you really should be asking about your website instead:

  1. Whether the website is modern or not, is it something that you are proud of and represents your brand?
  2. Does it look like it has been updated recently or have some form of dynamic content?
  3. Is it a revenue-generating asset, and what would it take to become that?

If you want to explore these more, please reach out to us! We would love to discuss how we can help your business goals and how your web presence can make that happen.
